Guillaume Affair in Media
Petrov, Martin ; Emler, David (advisor) ; Lizcová, Zuzana (referee)
The bachelor thesis "The Guillaume Affair from the Media's Perspective" deals with the reaction of selected periodicals to the event in which the West German counterintelligence exposed the Stasi agent Günter Guillaume in Willy Brandt's chancellery. After the Spiegel affair, this was another major event in German history, and even in this case the media played a key role too. After the arrest of Guillaume and his wife Christel, the German media published many articles about Guillaume's life, his career, and the background to the affair. Increasing pressure from the press and fellow party members eventually forced Willy Brandt to resign as Chancellor of the Federal Republic, leaving his post to Helmut Schmidt. Brandt's resignation is one of the reasons why the media in East Germany, which had preferred to remain silent in similar cases, picked up on the affair. However, the popularity of the former mayor of West Berlin was also high in the GDR, which is why several articles dealing with the Guillaume affair appeared in the media there. The aim of this thesis is to map the reaction of the weekly Der Spiegel and the daily Neues Deutschland to the Guillaume affair and to find out how the selected periodicals agreed and disagreed in their coverage of the event.

The thesis "The policy of the parliamentary parties in the Federal Republic of Germany towards the countries of the Eastern Bloc within the years 1963-1966" studies the policy of the parliamentary parties in the Federal Republic of Germany - CDU/CSU (Christian Democratic Union of Germany and Christian Social Union of Bavaria), FDP (Free Democratic Party) and SPD (Social Democratic Party of Germany) - towards the countries of the Eastern Bloc during the Federal Cabinet of Ludwig Erhard between the years 1963-1966. The thesis hypothesizes that a significant shift in the approach to the German question and Ostpolitik occurred in all the parliamentary parties in the FRG during the years 1963-1966. This hypothesis is tested by means of a detailed chronological description and analysis of the progress of the policies and a comparative analysis of the parties' policies towards the Soviet Union, the German Democratic Republic and other communist states of Eastern Europe. The thesis is focused on both the official policy of the Federal Cabinet and the policies of all the parliamentary parties and also on the opinions of the parties' individual members. Furthermore, it shows the process of shaping of collective opinions which react to changes in the world politics and home affairs. The analysis is put into...

Malínek, Tomáš ; Kučera, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Kunštát, Miroslav (referee) ; Nečasová, Denisa (referee)
This doctoral thesis deals with the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) and its foreign policy towards Czechoslovakia during the 1970s and 1980s. It aims not only to analyse the relationship between SPD and KSČ (Communist Party of Czechoslovakia) but also the communication and cooperation between SPD, Czechoslovak dissidents and Czechoslovak political emigration. The main goal of the dissertation is to answer three basic questions: What were the goals of social democratic eastern policy (Ostpolitik) towards ČSSR? Were they achieved? Does the party changed its attitude towards Czechoslovakia after 1982, when it became an opposition party?

Cimalová, Natalie ; Veselý, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Šauer, Jaroslav (referee)
This bachelor's thesis deals with establishment of diplomatic relations with the Eastern countries during the period of Willy Brandt's chancellorship. The aim of this thesis is to analyze the way the contracts that the Federal Republic of Germany made with the Soviet Union, Poland, GDR and Czechoslovakia during Brandt's chancellorship contributed to détente in Europe and prepared good conditions for the organization of the Conference on Security and Co-operation in Europe in Helsinki, whose outcome was the Final Act adopted on August 1, 1975. The first chapter deals with the roots of Brandt's Ostpolitik and the beginnings of his political career. The second chapter analyzes Brandt's government concerning his policy toward the eastern countries. It concerns Brandt's meeting with Stoph in Erfurt and Kassel, and the conclusion of the contracts with the Soviet Union and Poland in 1970. The third chapter deals with the normalization of relations of the FRG with GDR. The fourth chapter then deals with the contract between FRG and the Czechoslovakia from 1973 which completed the overall structure of the bilateral agreements with the Eastern countries. This chapter also deals with the issue of the invalidity of the Munich Agreement, which had to be solved in order to conclude this contract. The fifth chapter analyzes the connection of the Ostpolitik with the organization of the CSCE which is often regarded as the greatest achievement of Brandt's Ostpolitik.
